no reading whatsoever...

well, reading week has been a BLUR! my roommate and i were downtown just about every day, all over the place and super busy. no reading was done whatsoever haha! things we did: went to yuk yuks to watch our friend alex perform during humber student night (awesome, i laughed SO hard and got called pebbles), went to old faithful sneaky dees (hip hop night yeeeah hipsters dancing to rap! not awk at all), met some friends visiting from ottawa for dinner, went shopping, spent two hours and $60 at staples getting our portfolios printed, lowe roche portfolio show, the pretty reckless concert at tattoo rock parlour, aaaand that's about it i think.

lowe roche was pretty great. i spoke with a writer there, mike, and he gave me some tips about my work and some tips in general for portfolios. #1 do not put radio scripts in unless they are amazing. #2 do not put tv scripts in unless they are amazing. and then just some stuff about my individual campaigns. overall a good experience, met up with a few peeps from the copywriting program. i also feel like i recognized a ton of people who i follow on twitter from other schools, but was waaaay to stressed to go over and introduce myself without sounding silly haha. LR has a wicked office, i basically feel like i was living the ad buzz tour video as i walked the hallways lol. so after that, we went and got some sweets at second cup, i also had a london fog which i think is my new fave, and went home. way less nerveracking than i expected, which is pretty cool.

then saturday was the pretty reckless. it was snowing buckets so i was happy that i didn't wear my dress, and was wearing my ass kickin' doc martens. we met jenn and don and waited in line, got in and all settled etc. the show was soo early. it started at 7 and was done by 10ish. the first opening band, a thousand horses, was awesome! they had a great sound, a mixture of rock, and southern blues. man they were great. seriously, look them up. the funny thing is that they all had girlishly long hair, except the drummer who had a shaved head. out of plaaaaace lol. then the next band came on. dear lord. runner runner was their name. they sounded like a boy band, the guitarist reminded me of will schuester from glee and he kept winking and uuughhhh. awful. anyways, after they were fiiiiiinally done, came the pretty reckless and little j herself. although, the name hardly suits her anymore as she came onstage in leather shorts (underwear basically), dog collar, and a tank that said i fuck for satan. with her eyes blacked out, stringy platinum extensions and black platform boots, she looked nothing like the jenny humphrey or little cindy lou hou that everyone remembered her by. all that aside, man that girl can sing. and shake it. and scream. in fact, the screamy parts of the songs were better than the melodic singing parts. this girl was born to raise her voice. and that she did. at one point, she wanted to bring some girls on stage and was trying to get people to strip to go up with her. needless to say, my tank top stayed on thank-you-very-much. HA! two lucky gals got up there with her and shook what their mamas gave 'em for a song or two. all in all it was an amaaaaazing show. i was a bit apprehensive that she would not sound good live as compared to the recordings, but i'd say it was almost better. her energy was contagious. she thanked us after every song and as we all cheered replied with a "holy fuck you guys are loud" damn right taymoms. the music turned down and the lights came up. 10 oclock. so much for dancing our asses off after the show. we got our coats and ventured into the snowglobe that was toronto on saturday night. as i sat on the streetcar on the way home, i basically decided that i would have been too tired to party after anyways, and by the time we finally got home i was pooped!

sunday i just puttered around i think... i don't even remember. all i remember is the wicked dinner i made us! honey chili chicken (for yvonne) and gardein "chicken" for me! oh my... it was great. throw some olive oil, honey, a clove of garlic, a sprinkle of brown sugar and a tablespoon of red pepper flakes in the food processor. then dump it into a ziploc bag with your choice of protein (tofu, gardien... whatevs) and put it in the fridge to marinate for a couple of hours. bake at 350 for about 40 - 45 minutes. omgz. enjoy with garlic mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli yummo.

today, i worked on my homework, and coloured! it was so fun and really made me relax. i printed out some line drawings of state birds and coloured them to put up on the wall in my room. so fun

then for dinner, i was feeling like some seitan, so i found a recipe to make vegan chicken wings with seitan! oh. my. god soooo yummy! legit tasted like real chicken wings.... minus the chicken! lord they were spicy, but delicious. my carnivorous roommate even enjoyed them :) alongside that i made some corn, and red skinned potato oven fries, of which i arranged on the cookie tray like an ocd person, but i was just bored i swear.....

they turned out amazingly, definitely a recipe i'll make again, on both accounts. wings recipe: http://vegetarian.about.com/od/maindishentreerecipes/r/seitanwings.htm

for the potatoes, just toss them with some olive oil, s+p and garlic powder, bake at 450 for 25 minutes. delish. i put some bananas in the freezer to try a recipe for raw ice cream... we'll see how that works after gossip girl. yay for cooking and trying new things. i love itttt!!!

other news, first day at my new job tomorrow at the lakeshore yacht club. just getting the clubhouse ready before the season opens, then i'll be working full time, 10 mins away from my house, outside by the water all day! so pumped.

sorry for rambling, i just needed to get all my thoughts out! back to school wednesday blaaaah but i guess i got a good break :)
